common wood rot related problems
#1-Water Damage
( Damp Wood )
Wood rot also known as wood decay, is the breaking down of wood caused by fungi that thrive in damp conditions. They use the wood for food.
Conditions:
Fungi thrive in damp environments, particularly when wood has a moisture content of 20% or more and is unable to dry out quickly.
Types:
Brown rot: This type of rot attacks cellulose, the main structural component of wood causing it to become crumbly and brittle.
White rot: This type attacks both cellulose and lignin, the other component of wood, leading to a lighter-colored, often spongy appearance.
Soft rot: This type breaks down cellulose, often resulting in a honeycomb-like appearance in the wood
#2- Insects
(Termites,Carpenter Bees, Carpenter Ants, and Powder-post Beetles )
Insect damage to wood can weaken and destroy the structural integrity of wood.
It is very important to do regular inspections to check for sings of infestation especially in damp areas.
#3- People, Pets,and Kids
OK. This one no one want's to admit to but accidents happen all the time, and damage is done to your home.
Dog's chew on door jambs, kids hit a ball and damage doors and walls.(I had a Dad drive a golf ball through the garage door). Cars somehow hit garage walls and anything else you can think of. It's OK I can get it back in good shape.
Hoe much dose it cost to repair wood rot in New Bern NC?
It all depends on how much and how severe the damage is. If it's just a few places that can be repaired $100 - $300, If it's a lot and most of your wood needs replaced then it could be closer to $1,000. Unfortunately wood rot and wood damage get worse over time, so it is best to have it taken care of quickly.
